Mack Saied Jr owner of Saieds Department Store received the Community Service Award at the Collingsworth Chamber of Commerce annual banquet on February 1. Goldie Barnett earned the Sales and Service Award for the third time while Carthel Lewis won the 1986 Salt Fork Soil and Water Conservation District Outstanding Farmer award. The President's Award went to the Collingsworth History Book Committee, chaired by Evelyn King, with members named. Charles Carter and Jim Cabbelli presented awards.

Collingsworth General Hospital earned a favorable audit for the year ended September 30 1985 though rising accounts receivable and bad debts were noted. Operating revenue fell to 1,154,940 with a 223,398 total year profit after tax and interest. admissions and patient days declined. Board to hire additional physician recruitment firms after earlier effort produced no firm prospect.

March filing deadlines for Wellington school and hospital boards
March 5 is the school board filing deadline and March 11 the hospital board deadline. Four two year terms for the hospital board and three seats (two three year terms and one two year term) for the Wellington Independent School District will be decided in the April 5 election. Incumbents up for school board terms are Frances Schmidt and Sharon Starkey. Bill Spillman resigned last year leaving a two year seat open. Frances Schmidt filed for re election Feb. 4. no other candidates had filed.
