Dodson Church Plans Sweetheart Banquet

The Dodson Church of the Nazarene hosts a church wide Sweetheart Banquet on February 12 at 6 30 p m in the fellowship hall. Guest speaker Harold Wayne Moore a Pampa Schools alumnus and former coach now preaches at Wheeler Church of the Nazarene. Musical entertainment by the Harmonettes of Hollis. All members urged to attend.

Four honored at Collingsworth Chamber banquet in Wellington

The Collingsworth Chamber of Commerce honored four men February 4 at the Wellington banquet. Kenneth Wyatt, Tulsa humorist artist, kept guests relaxed as awards were presented by outgoing president Charles Floyd. Jimmy Barber received Outstanding Sales and Service. C T Hubbard earned Community Service. Deskins Wells received Lifetime Service to the Community. John Robert Howard was named Outstanding Rancher.

Ten Complete Nurse Assisting Course Ceremony

Ten students completed a 13 week nursing assistant course in Wellington offered by Amarillo College and Collingsworth General Hospital. Certificates were presented by Mrs A L Crawford and guest of honor Mrs Glenna Inghrami at a Thursday ceremony.

Easter Seal Drive Led by Jack Neeley in Collingsworth

Jack Neeley will head the 1975 Easter Seal Appeal in Collingsworth County announced by Thomas N. Jenness Jr of Ft Worth president of the Texas Faster Seal Society. Residents will receive letters beginning February 15 as the drive runs through Easter Sunday March 30 to aid disabled Texans and their families.

Ground soaking rains drench Collingsworth during week

Heavy rains drenched Collingsworth County from January 29, with Wellington and Quail reporting up to 2.15 inches. Measurable moisture fell on 5 of 7 days, improving soil for wheat and cattle grazing as farmers note the moisture is ideal for next year’s crops.

Wellington Cemetery Meet Seeks Officers Friday

The Wellington Cemetery Association urges attendance at its Friday meeting to elect officers and discuss cemetery upkeep. Judge Zook Thomas, president, invites interested citizens to join in the discussion at 7:00 pm in the Directors Room of Greenbelt Electric Cooperative. The association maintains Wellington's three cemeteries.

Collingsworth voters set April 5 for city school and hospital elections

Collingsworth residents will vote on Saturday April 1 with county wide hospital board races and three school district trustee contests for Wellington Quail and Sumnerwood. Incumbents facing term expirations include Clyde Drake J C Howell Tom Cunningham Bill Jones and Otis Emmert. Mayors and council seats in Wellington and Dodson are on the ballot with term statuses and candidate decisions noted.

Museum Budget Adopted for 1975 at $2,545

Collings County Historical Museum board approved the 1975 operating budget of 2545 dollars on February 4. The meeting, led by President Clyde Drake, also voted to purchase a cornerstone to honor donors Mr. and Mrs. Hurshel Tyler. Gifts from the 1925 Study Club and Camp Fire Council funds support new cases and displays on local history.

Annual Quail Coronation and Pie Supper Monday

The Quail School schedules a Monday evening event to crown Mr and Miss Quail for both high school and elementary grades. A pie supper fundraiser starts at 7:00 p.m. in Quail Gymnasium and supports Junior-Senior activities, athletic equipment, and other school projects.

Potter County considers new minimum security center visit

Thomas and Parsons joined Potter County Judge Branch Archer in Amarillo to tour the old Air Force Base detention facility. Officials discussed prisoner programs including rehabilitation work stays and vocational courses, with plans for an alcohol treatment center to serve Panhandle counties.
