The Wellington Rotary Club challenges the Kiwanis to a benefit basketball game on Saturday February 13 at 8:00 p.m. in Skyrocket gymnasium. Proceeds fund each club scholarship. Rotary president Trusten Thomas notes a $150 spring scholarship for county graduates.
The Trinity Methodist Men Fellowship will meet Tuesday evening February 9 with C. A. Wilbur as president. A pancake supper at 7:30 p.m. leads into a program and fellowship. Rev. C. R. Hawkins, pastor of Glen Davis Memorial Church in Dozier, will be the speaker. All men are invited.
The Rev. A. B. Earnest Jr. of First Baptist Church will depart February 7 for Leavenworth Washington to lead a two week revival at New Hope Baptist Church. He notes Southern Baptists have only recently begun work in the Northwest and this is seen as pioneer mission effort.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Spillman learn of the death of his aunt Mrs. Isla Meade of Coyville Kansas on Sunday evening January 3. She was 80 and had attended church that morning. Funeral services are planned for Thursday.
A 11.4 mile seal coating project on FM 338 in Collingsworth county was awarded to a Fort Worth firm, Ernest Loyd submitting the low bid of 70 512.76. The work from Wellington to Dodson is to last about 100 days under district engineer W J Mc Gee and resident engineer L Clyde Drake.
At a dinner meeting on January 28, Raymond C. Morrison of the Area Redevelopment Administration praised Wellington’s determination to attract payrolls and industry. He warned the community not to waver, as outside help hinges on local resolve. A three-man ARA team led by Morrison along with Neal Blanton and Gerald F. Albright outlined steps, formed a local industry committee chaired by Sandy Parsons, and set plans to study local businesses for internal expansion. The Builders Club industry committee remains active, with efforts to link external contacts and evaluate potential expansions that could employ 8 to 50 or more people.
Mrs. A. J. Todd of San Saba, mother of the Rev. Ellis Todd, died there Sunday morning January 31. The Rev. and Mrs. Todd left the area after learning of the death. funeral plans have not been learned.
The Quail Quails host Hedley Owls in a Friday district showdown with both teams strong at top. Quail leads 5–0 while Hedley sits 4–1. their only loss came when Quail beat Hedley on the road. The Bobwhite and Owlettes start the doubleheader.
Six Baptist churches in Coll ingeworth county will join a three day Sunday School enlargement campaignFebruary 22 to 24 led by Harold Hanson Dallas in charge of associational Sunday School work for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Evening sessions by pastors will be held at their churches for teachers and workers.
Water board president Dan Howard reveals plans for a balancing reservoir near Wellington to support Salt Fork irrigation. Core drilling at Dozier Creek dam site proceeds with 12 test holes and subsurface surveys led by Bryant-Curington Inc. engineers. Farmers north and south of Salt Fork will be invited to discuss forming an irrigation district.

Wellington's Rockettes and Skyrockets travel to Canadian for the second conference meeting of the season. Coach James Stavenhagen expects a pretty good game. On Tuesday Feb 9 the Sky rockets visit Memphis to face a strong Cyclone squad with a B team boys game vs Memphis B Cyclone.

Joe Beard, recently hospitalized in Wichita Falls for surgery, has gone home and is slowly improving. Friends report steady recovery with gradual strength returning.
Wellington schools closed after Monday afternoon due to a respiratory illness affecting about 100 students. Superintendent J L Harper said classes would resume Thursday morning February 4 and noted that attendance impacts the district ADA figures and future staffing. Dr. Carter Holcomb urged staying out of crowds and cautioned that flu shots are ineffective after exposure.
Larry Milner of the Texas Industrial Commission spoke to Wellington business leaders on February 2, outlining five steps for communities seeking industry. Emphasizing community betterment, research, financing facilities, available sites, and sources of prospects, he urged local leaders to actively market their towns and maintain ready data and assets.
The Norwood PTA approved two large air conditioning units to cool the Sumnerwood high and elementary buildings, with ducts to all rooms. The project, presented by J. M. Morgan and guided by president Mrs. A F Wischkaemper, Jr., aims to have the entire plant cooled before hot weather.
Deskins Wells who underwent surgery Friday January 22 in Houston continues to improve Mrs Wells said Tuesday night He remains a patient at the University of Texas M D Anderson Hospital and Tumor Clinic in the Texas Medical Center Visitors this week include former Wellington men Richard Cocke Bill Leach and Hugh Sherwood, now residents of Houston.
The Harvest Festival at Trinity Church is moved to Wednesday evening February 10 due to illness in the community. The church supper starts at 6 00 p m and the Lord s Acre dedication sermon begins at 7 30 p m preached by the Rev C R Hawkins from the Aberdeen community, per Mrs John Wolf coordinating plans.
