Appraisal Board Appoints New Equalization Board Members
The Collingsworth County Appraisal District Board appointed Wayne Cudd and Gary Tarver to two year terms and Delbert White to a one year term on the appraisal review board formerly known as the board of equalization. The district also selected Wellington State Bank as depository after no other bids. The board discussed a new chief appraiser but took no action. Present were Bill Lindsey Monty McCloy Joe Frank Knoll and Cary Don Neeley with Nita Brantley absent.

DAR Honors 6 Area History Students for February Theme
The DAR La Paisana Chapter honors six area high school students for outstanding American History study. 82 Little Miss Wellington Pageant Set for March 5
The Wellington chapter of Future Homemakers of America sponsors the 82 Little Miss Wellington pageant for girls in grades two to four. Entry deadline is Feb 15, rehearsals start Feb 8 at 4 PM in the high school auditorium. Tickets at the door cost 75 cents for children and $1.50 for adults. GTE seeks 110 million rate hike in Texas
General Telephone Company of the Southwest asked the Texas Public Utility Commission for a 110 million dollar rate increase. The filing, announced from San Angelo by ELL. Buddy Langley, covers 30 million from long distance tolls, 43 million from higher basic monthly rates, and 18 million from equipment and services. A hearing is set for February 16.

Two Candidates File For Wellington City Council Seats
Two council members whose terms end filed for re election at the Monday meeting. A third member ill and seeking re election said he will file soon. Willie Gragson and Gary Gragson signed to place their names on April 3 ballot. Gary is a 45 year old draftsman for the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation and has lived in Texas 39 years and Wellington 18. Brewer 30 is an insurance adjuster and lifelong Wellington resident. Hubert Brooks and Joe Brooks discussed the landfill farm lease with no action. City Manager Glen Taylor reported water sewer and sanitation income for the first half of the fiscal year ahead of budget. Attending were Mayor Ralph Owens Council members John Rainey Sam McGill Willie Grayson Gary Brewer City Manager Taylor and City Secretary Nell McKinney. Councilman Lyndon Crelia was ill.
