The Wellington High School stage band won the outstanding Class AA honor at the West Texas State University Stage Band Festival held January 28 on its campus. The group also earned a Division 1 rating, with two members named to the All-Star Band.

Major Kenneth Wayne Winter 35 of the United States Air Force died when his plane crashed near Hamilton AFB California Wednesday January 25 He was an Air Science instructor at San Francisco State College and flew with a student pilot He is survived by his wife Sue Chandler two daughters Linda Kay and Katherine Sue his mother Arvezene Winter and brothers James A Winter and Keith Winter Burial with full military honors was at Tyler Memorial Park Tyler services were held January 29 at First Baptist Church Tyler.

County Four-H Steer Scores at Stock Show
A Brahman-Hereford cross steer owned by Wellington 4-H members Mike and Keith Davis was named reserve champion in the Fat Cass live-animals judging at the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show. The Davis brothers are sons of G. N. Davis. Mike showed the steer. The reserve champion was bred by Donaghy Ranches of Wellington, which also bred the grand champion shown by Monte Seymour of Lipan. Carcass judging was pending results.

Mil lard Brown of the ASCS office said sign-up for 1967 cotton wheat and feed grain under the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation program begins Monday February 6 and continues through Friday March 3. The four week period requires prior planning to speed processing. Programs will largely mirror last year with some changes.

Norwood Leader Cecil Brown Dies After 35 Years of Service
Cecil Preston Brown longtime Norwood area leader died January 25 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Amarillo after a stroke. He operated a Plymouth Samnarwood grocery with wife Cleo since 1937, earlier partnered with father in law Matt Tenison. Born 1896 in Lingleville he served in World War I and contributed to water, school athletics, Lions Club, and Church of Christ in Dozier.

Sheriff Rainey reports a professional style bank and post office burglary at First State Bank of Dodson and Dodson post office. Thieves used a cutting torch to enter from inside vaults and escaped with about 1048.67 dollars. Investigators note lack of inside fingerprints but many exterior tracks and water poured into a vault isles to prevent fire.
