Wellington volunteers battle grass fire near Memphis Highway Y
On Monday noon December 28 volunteers from Wellington's Fire Department joined Childress County responders to tackle a grass fire in a field one and a half miles west of Highway 83 at the Memphis Highway Y. The blaze started when a wheel on a cotton trailer spun and threw sparks. The Childress Fire Department also assisted.

January Livestock Survey Begins in Texas for 1993
The Texas Agricultural Statistics Service starts a statewide survey as part of the USDA inventory effort. Producers will report 1992 calf and lamb crops and the beginning year inventories of cattle, calves, sheep, lambs, goats, and kids. Data is confidential and used to estimate Texas livestock populations for 1993 with results released February 5 and later district and county figures.
