Holiday displays light up Wellington with festive motifs from businesses and homes. The Yoletide parade showcases almost every trade, with dry goods, drug, hardware, and grocery stores presenting gift lines and specials. Prices run low despite wholesale cost increases, reflecting widespread seasonal spirit.
Wellington and Dodsonville girls joined district Home Economics clubs in Memphis for a Saturday meeting. District officers were elected, lunch served by the Memphis home department, and an afternoon program featured performances from each club. Attendees from Dodhonville included Marie Seymour Helen Hollman Jo McKinney Erna Fae Ford Aline McKinney.
Ruth Jackson of Wilmuleer 4-H Club won third place in the district state contest for 4-H reporters. She served as club reporter and contributed to the Daily Star publication. District first place went to Joy Riley of Briscoe and Clestine Den ofhildross took second.

November term of district court ends this week. Quail High School vocational agriculture students swept the Tri-County Poultry Show, securing first place over 12 teams with 1,102 points led by high point man R. L. Maberry 388 to 374 for D. York of Friona. Quail also led in examinations with 278 of 300. Other Quail members included Richard Hooker and Harry Creed. Maberry also featured as an all star basketball pick after the Lalia Lake tournament.
Veteran barrister Judge A. J. Fires presided over the 100th judicial district for the last time as the November term nears close. The term, with a light docket, saw 25 civil cases disposed including 15 divorces, and 10 criminal cases with penalties of 25 years for Marcus L Frog Eye Mooney and five years for Frank Blinton.
Five Wellington men Ben Hurst Logan Cummings Carl Barber Dr J W Harper and Joe Thompson traveled Tuesday to Pampa for the Adobe Walls Area Scouter Convention. Officers for the ensuing year will be elected at the session. They will attend the annual Scout banquet after the business.
Sixteen teams enter the Quail tournament opening Friday with record crowds anticipated. Superintendent Carl Chaudoin reports 400 season tickets sold. Friday morning schedule features Rogs-Quad versus Lelia and other matchups. winners advance to semi finals Saturday, with finals and queen crowning at closing ceremonies.
The Wellington Schools will observe a two week recess for Christmas. Superintendent G. L. Farrar announced closure from Friday, December 18, to Monday, January 2. Schools opened earlier in September to make up for extra holiday days.
The Epworth League of the Methodist Church asks residents to donate to collection boxes at Raburn Grocery, Duckworth Food Store, Pigsty Wiggly, and Lewis Grocery. Chairman G L Farrar Jr says volunteers will sing carols and distribute collected food across the town on Christmas night, aiming to help all in need.
A county soil and conservation office announces that no general alah has been made in Colingsworth County. The county reported 98 percent participation in 1984 with similar expected deductions around four percent. Vouchers were processed and sent to College Station with expected returns by Christmas.
Tickets for the Wellington High School annual football banquet on Monday December 28 are moving quickly as county fans support the 1936 team. The Tickets Sales Committee notes only 300 tickets will be sold, with space for no more than 400 attendees, including 100 squad members, visiting players, and coaches. The banquet program remains as announced in the Leader with Coach "Dutch".
Announcement that the Third Sun day Convention will be held at Marella Sunday December 20 reported by T G Campbell chairman of the location committee. A large crowd at Cross Roads Inst included guests from Rolla Wellington Bean Hill Salt Park Lillie and others with leaders Mr and Mrs Hunter Sims Bob Spears among them.
Funeral services for Mrs. Permalia Lacy age 57 were held at Buck Creek Church at 3 pm Thursday December 10 conducted by Rev W S Crawford and Rev R L Porter. She died following pneumonia after years of poor health born Kentucky December 4 1879 she moved to Texas as a child married H Lacy at Vernon August 11 1901 and had ten children.
John O. Stovall will leave Collingsworth County January 1 1927 to become County Agent of Hemphill County in Canadian. W K Cottingham is hired as Collingsworth County Agent for the ensuing year. Stovall has served since July 1 1938 under the government agricultural program and cites fondness for the county. Cottingham comes from Moore County and is a 1924 Texas A and M graduate.
A major 2 in 1 farm sale is set for December 22 at the S B Bowen farm, one and a half miles east and two miles south of the Rolla Gin. Items belong to W L Gray and B I Beattie will be offered, with George Apple as auctioneer. Free coffee and on site lunch will be provided, featuring a large livestock list including eight horses and mules, five cows, and more.
Dodsonville will close Friday December 48 for holidays per superintendent W E Uselton who says classes resume Monday December 28 A Christmas program by Dodsonville students at the high school auditorium is set for Thursday night December 17 with public invited to attend
A free Christmas Eve program for children will be sponsored at the Ritz Theatre. The act set features a kid friendly show screening at 10 o clock Thursday evening with festive entertainment and activities for youngsters.
