Santa to Be In Town Saturday in Wellington

Santa Claus will visit Wellington on Saturday December six at two o clock in the afternoon. He will walk the square greet children and visit stores for about an hour. Candy filled sack and photo opportunities are planned as Chamber of Commerce warns residents to shop Wellington stores.

Samnorwood Men Plant for Neighbor

Members of Samnorwood Lions Club and neighbors gathered at J C Breeding’s farm on Tuesday November 11 to plow land and plant wheat in his absence. They brought tractors plows and drills and planted about 200 acres. Breeding, a long time resident of the north part of the county, has helped many neighbors with crops.

Cos Donations Grow But More Are Needed

Community response to Collingsworth Outreach Services under directors Janelle Gilley and Vaneita Null has increased clothing and food donations. The program now stocks shelves and serves county residents. COS opens Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon at its third street location.

Hospital Boys Respiratory Gear Purchase at Collingsworth General

Collingsworth General Hospital bought respiratory therapy equipment for 13500 dollars on Tuesday November 25. The nurses and staff will use the gear on patients. Previously the equipment belonged to David Brown who is attending medical school in the Dominican Republic. The gear was stored at the hospital and the board acted before Brown’s contract expired.

Migrant Education Program Funds Grow for Wellington ISD

Wellington Independent School District gains additional funds through the Migrant Education Program. Superintendent Dr. Lawrence Ward notes the increased support, while Katy Davis, a new migrant education teacher, brings fresh experience from West Texas State University and Amarillo schools. Davis has a background in art with youth and has chaired the Collingsworth County Fair Art Show.

Annual Methodist Dinner and Bake Sale Planned

Final plans for the annual Christ mas Dinner and Bake Sale by the First United Methodist Church women, at Burn Handley Community Center on Saturday December 6. Dinner served 11 30 a m to 1 p m with takeouts 11 a m to 1 p m, tickets five dollars for adults two fifty for children. Bake sale begins 9 30 a m no bazaar this year. Co chairmen and kitchen and bake sale leaders named, volunteers welcomed.

Samnerwood Hosts 16 Team Cage Tourney This December

Samnerwood hosts its annual 16 team basketball tournament from Thursday December 11 through Saturday December 13. Participants include Wellington Allison Kelton Hedley McLean Mobeetie Lefors and Summerwood with top girls and boys brackets led by Wellington Allison Kelton Hedley. Semifinals Friday December 12. finals Saturday feature girls at 7 p.m. and boys at 8:30 p.m.
