Museum holds annual meeting names 1993 officers and trustees

Members of Collingsworth County Museum met Sunday November 22 in the Sullivan Hardware building for their annual meeting. Officers were re elected. the by laws were amended to enlarge the board to 10 trustees. Trustees elected included Delia Aguilar Betty Baumgardner Chad Holland Lynn Hurst E B Peeples and Loretta Wright.

Collingsworth County Museum to Light Christmas Tree

Plans for the Collingsworth County Museum Christmas tree lighting and carol service are nearly complete with a new program. Willie Faye Patrick announces event Wednesday December 9 at 7 p.m. at the museum on the east side of the courthouse square. The ceremony includes opening prayer by Oren Rogers, festive songs, and a pioneer school display in the Sullivan building. Local churches and groups will perform, with Paul and Sylvia Cummings traveling from Spain to sing. A coloring contest lets a winner switch on the tree lights. Weather may move caroling indoors to the Sullivan building.

Skyrocket Christmas promotion kicks off in Wellington

Wellington unveils a Skyrocket Christmas program with a December 19 drawing on the courthouse lawn. Merchants will issue tickets for purchases, with multiple prizes including a microwave certificate as the main gift and daily drawings planned by participant stores.

Cotton harvest tops twenty one thousand bales in Collingsworth

About 21 600 bales of high quality cotton were gathered in Collingsworth County before snow halted picking. Farmers return to fields as moisture and soil type will affect grade loss, with harvest near normal by week’s end. Prices hovered around 63 cents with government support.

WHS honors government students join Tea Party supporters

Wellington High School honors government students to join a national Tea Party exercise at Capitol Hill. Coordinated by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, students will deliver tea bags to the New Congress as it begins its first session in January to protest what Parade Magazine lists as wasteful spending and rising Congressional costs.
