The 1982 art show, Sept 10 11, in Burn Handley Community Center, invites county artists to enter new works only. Nancy McKinney assists chairman Mrs. Davis urges participation across four divisions adult junior elementary open with rules and placement by Sept 9, entries requiring wired frames, and multiple media categories across defined classes.
Mrs. Ciddie Wall of LaMarque joins in room II-C as visitors and weekly activities fill the center. Winners included Mrs. Mattie Lindsey and Bill Turner, with volunteers named such as Susie Crawford Estelle French and Bessie Tucker. Church groups led singing and Bible study while many relatives visit from Shamrock Amarillo Lubbock and beyond.
Summerwood Schools reports 112 students enrolled for the 1982-83 season under Principal Kenneth Martindale. Fifteen are in kindergarten, slightly below 1981’s 118. The district will join the Collingsworth County Fair parade on Sept. 9 with Future Farmers and Homemakers entries, FFA members, and Lions Club Sweetheart Crystal Breeding plus Miss Summerwood Stacy Brandvik as parade participants.

A separate Assembly of God garage sale at 8th and Dalhart features pies, cakes, clothing, toys, and paints. Thursday blossoms 6am to 1pm, and 1310 Childress hosts a Saturday sale from 9am to 5pm. Tessie Burba announces a free weatherization program for elderly disabled or low income homeowners. Qualification uses income limits for family sizes one through two. Program funded by Texas Department of Human Resources covers 26 Panhandle counties with labor and material support up to 150 dollars in materials.
Wellington joins 34 Panhandle cities for the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon with a local pledge center at the RSVP office. Coordinator Willie B Harwell will run the Wellington pledge center open from 8 00 p m Sunday September 5 through 6 30 p m Monday September 6 with a special phone line.
Samnorwood Baptist Church named pulpit members Selba Rainey Oliver Wisch kaemper Larry Waters and Mrs E E Darrow. They visited other churches but have not chosen a pastor. Rev Lee Hillon preached several Sundays and Rev Dout Dubose spoke August 22 as the Wellington pledge center telethon for MDA.
Sheriff Kenneth Maxwell reveals a court ordered sale in Collingsworth County Texas for the Montgomery Hog Farm, Block 15 Section 53 7 acres with buildings, levied to satisfy a Memphis Independent School District judgment of 1520.33 plus interest 9 percent from February 23 1982 and costs. The sale is set for the first Tuesday in October 1982 at FM 154 seven miles west of Wellington.
