The Wellington Leader notes the first Parent Teacher Organization meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday August 28 in the school cafeteria. Parents are urged to attend for membership and activities planning for the new year. Afterward Wellington Elementary hosts Meet the Teacher night inviting parents and grandparents to meet teachers for the 1995 96 school year.
The Collingsworth County 4-H Photography Project holds a contest for members completing the year’s project. Photos will be exhibited at the County Museum Art Center on Peanut Festival Saturday. Judging is Friday, August 25 at 5 p.m. Public invited to view, enjoy ice cream, and see category winner ribbons.
King Bowen will provide a musical program when the Old Settlers gather for a reunion and covered dish luncheon at the Senior Citizen's Center on 702 East Avenue. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the program at 10 30 and luncheon at noon led by Anne Bowen, secretary.
4 H Horse Club wrapped its final playday for 1995 on July 31 at the VFW Arena. Winners across age divisions include Denise Sexton Denise Sexton and Jessica Holton Denise Sexton and Jessica Holton. The group planned cross country rides, a hamburger cookout, and an ice cream finale at Holton Farm on August 7 with many members attending. Awards, rodeo prep, and Peanut Festival Parade plans were announced for the coming weeks and the October awards banquet.
A Student Health Fair set for Friday August 25 from 10 am to 2 pm will be hosted in the Wellington Elementary School gym. It targets Wellington and Summerwood students with booths from Collingsworth County Sheriff Office Extension Clubs Panhandle programs and local health groups. Sponsored by Collingsworth County Homemakers via the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, the event is for students only and not a public health fair.
