First day of school in Wellington ISD introduces several new faces and staff. Chris Edwards becomes Lady Rockets head coach and world geography teacher, transferring from Brownfield. His wife Jennifer Edwards serves as a special education aide, with daughter Kirsti entering seventh grade at WIJHS.

Assisted Living Committee fundraiser concert and auction
The Harrington Liring Quartet headlined a Sunday concert at Community Bank to raise funds for the Assisted Living Project. Donations and a mid event auction of art by Kenneth Wyatt boosted support for patio landscaping and kitchen equipment. The event honored Charles Carter and featured auctioneer Keith Martin.

County Crops Tour Set for August 28 at Wellington Farm
The Collingsworth County Crops Field Day will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at the Farmers Co-Op Gin one mile east of Wellington on Highway 203. Stops cover BT Cotton IPM, cotton varieties, WPS rules, purple nutsedge control, peanut varieties and spacing, blazer tolerance, late peanut fertilization, fungicide use for web blotch and leaf spot, and pepper diseases and insects. Re-registration of brands and marks begins August 31
Texas cattlemen must re-record their brands and earmarks every ten years to continue using them. Registration runs August 31, 2001 through February 28, 2002. Brands not re-registered by February 28, 2002 become void and may be registered by others. Fees are 11 dollars for the first location and 5 dollars for each additional location. All Collingsworth County brands are forwarded to Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association for statewide central filing.
