Hello Rocket Night will be held Friday August 18 at 7 p.m. The Skyrocket football team cross country team and cheerleaders will be introduced to fans. The Rocket Booster Club will have a table with last season caps and shirts at bargain prices. Memberships cost 5 for a single and 10 for a couple with a free window decal. Homemade ice cream will also be.
In a Friday night fall scene, Skyrockets begin two a days from August 7 in heat and long practice sessions. About 55 players join varsity and junior varsity with 12 seniors guiding the team led by T J Cantu Lance Kane Justin Hunter and others. Tickets go on sale at the WISD Business Office for the 2000 Skyrocket football season. Reserved seats cost 15 dollars and must be secured by Friday, August 25 to keep last year’s seats. Remaining seats will be released Monday, August 28. Contact 447-2511 for details.
Kurt Ashmore the Skyrockets coach and AD announced that the first varsity game against Hollis Tigers is moved to a home date. The game is set for September 1 at 7 30 p.m. at Powell Field.
WISD Board of Education met August 14 to set a public meeting on the 2000-2001 budget and tax rate. A public meeting was set for August 31 at 8 p.m. to discuss and adopt the budget and amend the 1999-2000 budget and approve the 2000 tax rate.
L C Sweat and Lottie Brock Handley, longtime BPW Club members, received pins for their decades of service. The local BPW began August 29, 1938, chartered November 8, 1938. Sweat joined in 1959, marking 41 years. she presides as song reader and volunteers on the telephone committee.
