The Governor states Congress will extend present draft ages and that registration will occur after a presidential proclamation. Local Boards will lead in each jurisdiction with registration in voting precincts and rapid, thorough preparation to classify and call men for military service.
A French warehouse held one thousand tons of sugar for three years before an auction. The Y M C A won the bid, and the sugar is now used to make 10 million chocolate bars for soldiers, a sweeter fate than its original destination.
Karl Cate of the YMCA describes loading a camion with medicines and food before fleeing the German advance. He chose to leave one box behind to avoid depriving refugees and wounded soldiers, then loaded five injured men and as many women and children as possible. He returned to bring more aid.
