The eighth annual sales tax holiday in the state runs August 4 through August 6. The Wellington Leader invites readers to learn more about the tax free weekend inside the paper.

A relaxed appeal from the Class of 1966 asks local businesses to help illuminate the Ritz square for a late night block party. The note recalls happier childhoods and invites everyone to attend, promising a festive gathering near the square.

Frances Hill, valedictorian of 1963 Wellington High School, built a career in math, physics, teaching, and computer science. She earned UT honors, MS from Houston, worked with NASA related projects, served on Wellington School Board, led library, scholarship efforts, and community groups, and supported multiple universities and local arts programs.
Henry Wells announced the Wellington Leader sale to Jeff and Angela Blackmon of Cameron with Jeff taking publisher duties August 10. Blackmon, in journalism since 1999, has served as sports editor and editor for multiple Texas papers and plans to run the Wellington Leader as a family business while preserving traditions and introducing new ideas for subscribers.
Historic Wellington leads fundraising for the Ritz Theatre reconstruction with Zephyr Foundation pledging up to 2.5 million. Additional support may be needed to finish dressing areas curtains and rigging as the project expands to incorporate former R&R Electric warehouse space for an event center and new concessions.
Management changes prompt updated news and advertising deadlines. All submissions must arrive by 12 00 noon Monday August 7 to meet the August 10 newspaper.
