Law enforcement officers located the submachine gun used in the hijacking of an American Airlines jet and the $500 000 ransom. They pursue the man with a pockmarked face and open sores who they believe was killed after parachuting from the jet over north.
Senator Bob Dole told the Senate that farmers deserve higher income as beef prices stay stable if cattle receive good prices. He argued price controls would curb production and imports might lower processed meat costs temporarily. He cited rising farmer costs for trucks and feed.
