Sub search postponed in Thresher salvage operation
The Bathyscaphe Trieste search for the Thresher hulk was postponed 24 hours due to minor technical problems. Capt. Frank Andrews led the effort with an 8,400-foot dive described as satisfactory though the vessel went a bit east of plan. The area lies about 4,000 yards from Thresher’s last known position, where 129 men perished during a deep test dive last April. Lt. Cmdr. Donald L. Hugh Daly 57 of San Antonio Texas died Saturday. Born February 6 1908 near Dalton he was Wellington High School class of 1922 graduate. He served in World War II with Army Engineer Corps in the South Pacific and was chief estimator for A F Ball Construction Co. Survivors include his widow mother a daughter three grandchildren a brother and half-siblings. Funeral services were held Monday in San Antonio.
