Hurricane Agnes battered the Florida Panhandle with 80 mph winds before dying down in Georgia. It killed 13 people and injured over 100, uprooting homes along a 15 mile Gulf coast stretch from Carabelle to Eastpoint. Damage included destruction of U S 98 and a causeway between Eastpoint and Apalachicola. In Pinellas County Tampa Bay area floods damaged 1,000 homes and sparked venomous snakes in yards.
