A tornado hit Tracy Minnesota killing at least 10 people and destroying up to 300 homes. More than a dozen missing and over 20 hospitalized. National Guardsmen and Civil Defense workers began search and cleanup as bodies were found and streets cleared.
Traffic to West Berlin returned to normal overnight but police warn more delays as East Germany imposes overland travel restrictions. West German leaders urge a united response while Pravda backs the measures. East Germany now requires visas and passports for West Germans traveling, with a July 15 deadline and higher commerce taxes.
Wellington City Council created the post to oversee parks including the golf course pool and cemetery with a starting salary of 505 dollars per month. Arthur E Bud Whealy begins next Monday to improve upkeep across park properties while the City Lake remains outside his jurisdiction. The council also ordered all departments to inventory supplies by January 1 1968 and extended July 10 as delinquent bill payment date for June utility charges. Memorial Auditorium plans include a feasibility study report due after June 25 or 17 open meeting.
An 2 hour 20 minute gun duel opened at Port Taufiq at the southern end of the canal. An Israeli spokesman said one Israeli was wounded. Egypt opened with light arms and artillery, port Suez and oil installations had seen prior action. The canal has been quiet since October.
Kenny Everhart announces five Wellington girls completed the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course after attending the National Aquatic School at Goddard Youth Camp Sulphur Oklahoma June 2 to June 12. Scholarships for board and room were provided by the American Legion Zenda Martin Elks Club Jan Mountz Richard Mady Peggy Edgar Cathy Bortz and Pat Myers.
John Owen 75 of 816 North died at 12 55 PM after falling from the roof of his Wellington home where he worked. He had been hospitalized at St Lukes with serious injuries and is survived by his widow Mary. The Frank Funeral Home will handle arrangements.
A surge of letters, telegrams, and calls pressing stronger federal gun-control laws has overwhelmed Congress since Senator Robert F. Kennedy's assassination. Urban areas lead in volume, though rural regions across the East, Midwest, South, and Rocky Mountain states show growing support and some shift to mild approval.
Security men hover around candidates across the country as George Wallace hosts a rally in Atlanta with metal detectors and door checks. McCarthy faces heavy protection in New York and Tulsa while Reagan and Rockefeller show guarded appearances at high profile events.

L H Ruppenthal McPherson attorney former senator filed for GOP state Senate district 6. Two incumbent Democrats James P Davis and Clarence C Love filed for renomination. Austin Northern Topeka 44th and Emanuel Manny Spack Overland Park 22nd also filed for the House.
New York reports that asteroid Icarus will approach within about 3.98 million miles today. The half mile wide rock orbits the sun every 409 days and makes a close pass roughly every 19 years. it will not be visible without a telescope at its closest point.
U S casualties in Vietnam could top a quarter million by year end if fighting and talks continue without a truce. Through June 8 1968 U S combat deaths reached 177 716 with 80 541 hospitalised wounded and 72 431 nonhospital wounds.
Witnesses testified Sirhan Bishara Sirhan fired on Senator Robert F. Kennedy at close range with a .22 revolver on June 5 at the Ambassador Hotel. They described rapid firing, three Kennedy wounds, and a smiling mystery girl beside the gunman as the crowd reacted in shock and confu sion.

U S forces report 32 enemy missiles found in Saigon region and 26 guerrillas killed after a sweep by the 1st and 25th Infantry Divisions. Four rockets struck Tan Son Nhut airbase wounding six soldiers and killing one American. Saigon avoided broader attack for a third day.
The Stars and Stripes flew over downtown businesses and homes on Flag Day. Ramon Reyes recalls June 14, 1953, the day he was seriously wounded in Korea as memories of fallen comrades flood back with every flag.
CAPE KENNEDY Fla. Eight new military communications satellites were placed in near circular orbits by a Titan 3 rocket. They join 17 existing craft to form the Defense Department's network. The Air Force reports all eight are operating as planned and signals have been received. The upgrade increases availability for Vietnam and Hawaii routes from 92 to 98 percent for top priority messages and from 60 to 85 percent for lower priority dispatches.
Dr Lyman S Johnson takes the pastorate at First United Methodist Church Wellington on June 2. He has previously served as minister in Arkansas City Winfield Garden City Concordia and was district superintendent for the area. The Johnsons, three children, and a large crowd attended a June 9 reception with program items and welcome remarks.
