JFK looks to Senate for area aid answer
A former Kansas man and his six children were killed in a pre-dawn fire on Vashon Island near Seattle. Cecil Landers 40 and his children Cathy 12 Michael 10 Teresa 8 Patricia 6 Beverly 3 and William 9 months perished. Mrs Landers 36 escaped after blowing a horn in the car as firemen arrived. Two newspaper carriers reported the blaze and a priest administered last rites. Fire Chief Wilbur Spencer said the cause may be an oil stove. Landers had worked in a defense factory in Culver City before moving to Seattle. The mother will travel to arrange funeral plans.

J Harris Carr 76 of 310 West 4th Wellington died Wednesday afternoon in a local hospital. Born November 18 1886 in Hutchinson he lived in Wellington since 1901 except for a retirement stint in California. He worked at First National Bank then Hunter Mills retiring in 1946. Survived by widow Maude two daughters a brother four grandchildren and a great grandchild. Private funeral Friday 10 a.m. Holder Funeral Home with Rev Bruce Currier officiating entombment in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
