In Santa Rosa California four siblings Davis 18 Richard 15 Kevin 13 and Karen 4 will enter Stanford University Medical Center on June 26 for open heart surgery. Doctors say the atrial septal defect they share is inherited from their father and while not fatal it would severely limit them.

The forecast shows Thursday high near 91 degrees and a low around 59 with sunny conditions and southwesterly winds from 10 to 20 mph. Friday expects a high in the upper 80s to low 90s with fair skies and a low near 60.

Senate investigators heard Herbert L. Porter, deputy campaign director, admit lying under oath at the Watergate trial and grand jury. He said Magruder directed the false story about funds paid to college students, and that he lied to protect the President and stay loyal to the campaign. Porter spoke of perjury by Magruder and said he later changed his mind after Magruder indicated indictments were likely.

Turnpike to Further Cut Right-of-Way Mowing

Kansas Turnpike Authority votes to further cut mowing along the 236 mile route from Kansas City to South Haven to save gasoline. Last year the mowing cut by 50 percent. this summer the system will mow only median strip, one mower width along outside shoulders and around interchanges.

Barley Harvest Begins East of Conway Springs

County Agent Sam Rowe reports the first cutting of high moisture barley east of Conway Springs on Thursday with two combines in the field. Kansas State College specialist Claude King and visitors surveyed the county for a new stripe disease in wheat while noting Army worms present but not damaging so far. Wheat in Summer County remains healthy. harvesting the 1973 crop is about a week away, with first cutting likely around June 18 in the southern county.

American Firms Sign Intent to Import Soviet Gas

El Paso Natural Gas Co and Occidental Petroleum Corp signed an intent to import over 10 billion dollars of Soviet natural gas over 25 years. The plan anticipates up to two billion cubic feet per day with a 2000 mile Yakutsk to Vladivostok pipeline and a fleet of 20 cryogenic tankers.
