Wellington city employees will begin using time clocks after a City Commission approval. Seven clocks at 165 each plus 56 for card stock, total about 1,267 dollars. Ten staff across Street Water Service and Water Sewage departments gain 28 monthly increases. new salaries 380 to 49 per month.

Aubrey James Norvell, 41, of Memphis, was formally charged in De Soto County with assault and battery with intent to kill and murder of James Meredith after Meredith was wounded by a shotgun blast. Prosecutor Ross Franks announced arraignment delay as Meredith vowed to return.

California Republicans vote today between Ronald Reagan and George Christopher for the governor nomination. Democratic Gov. Edmund G. Brown is favored to defeat Los Angeles Mayor Samuel W. Yorty in the primary. Mississippi and South Dakota also held congressional primaries amid a push by Eastland to secure renomination and a first state Republican primary to nominate a candidate for U S representative.

Three Teachers Resign Positions in Wellington Schools

At the June board meeting three Wellington Public School teachers announced their departures next year. Zella Norris will leave McKinley School for Independence with her husband. R. L. Rollins will join Haven Kansas public schools as band director. Lancre Bishop retires after 23 years and will not return next fall. The Lincoln School faculty sent thanks to the board.

Teamsters Rebel Against Hoffa Plan

A major rebellion within the Teamsters forms against James R. Hoffa’s plan to name a caretaker successor if he goes to prison. Harold Gibbons will lead opposition to Hoffa’s chosen Fitzsimmons with meetings across the union and a July 4 convention in Miami Beach expected to fuel a fight Hoffa may dislike. Wheat Harvest Halts as Rain Delays Sumner County

The 1966 Sumner County wheat harvest began Sunday but was halted by heavy rainfall up to 2 inches in places. High moisture kept grain from elevator acceptance and delayed further picking, with Elvie Lasiter's first cut rejected by Caldwell’s Farmer's Cooperative Elevator. A 3,600 bushel shipment at Kiowa arrived with 15 percent moisture and will need drying to reach 13.5 percent.

Former Wellingtonian Joins Ellsworth Staff as Press Assistant

Phillip A. Berkebile, 29, a Wellington native and ex Well ington resident, is named press assistant to Kansas Congressman Robert F. Ellsworth. He has worked in public relations for the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and for Great Plains Wheat Inc. Berkebile will join Ellsworth on a Wellington visit this week, continuing Ellsworth’s bid for the U S Senate nomination.
