Congressional Republicans approved a declaration of party principles for this year’s campaigns and launched a broad attack on Kennedy administration domestic and foreign policies. The 2500 word statement called for tax overhaul and a new direction for public policy to advance freedom at home and abroad.
Laotian rival princes Souvanna Phouma Boun Oum and Souphanouvong held talks in rebel held Plaines Des Jarres. Souvanna expressed hope for a coalition government by Friday while diplomats warned of possible Pathet Lao gains if no agreement is reached.
The Wheat Control Office in Kansas City says harvest will meet demand with sufficient labor and machines. Workers under 18 should not migrate. about 4,800 combines will be needed, 200 fewer than 1961, with 10,000 operators required in addition to local supply. Fifty-five temporary harvest offices will help, with openings in Antho ny Wellington Caldwell Kiowa Ashland Coldwater Kingman and Pratt. Undersecretary George W. Ball condemns proposed restrictions on U S aid to Communist satellites as a no win policy. He cites Senate action amending the foreign aid bill to bar aid to Yugoslavia and Poland and argues such limits push those nations toward Soviet domination.
President Kennedy's tax revision bill drew sharp criticism from Democratic senators at a closed meeting. Opponents voiced belief it may be dropped, while Republicans pressed for passage. Sen. Harry F. Byrd said his finance committee would study the measure fully despite opposition.

Wheat combines were busy in Sumner County and spot cutting reported along the southern Kansas border during an AP release. The Kansas harvest labor control office says barring more rain the harvest should be in full swing in the southern third of the state by Monday. Minor shortages of labor and combines noted at Wellington, Pratt and Bucklin. otherwise supply adequate.
Patrons of Geuda Springs High School voted down a proposed budget for eight grades at the grade school next term. The $26,000 proposal failed. A new budget for the 12 grades and high school will be considered at a June 11 meeting, after last term’s roughly $55,000 total.
