Louisville opens its streets and hotels to the 29th annual Grand Army of the Republic encampment. Frightful Explosion Kills Five At Spechta Ferry

A dynamite blast at Spechta Ferry near Dubuque Iowa follows a boy firing a rifle near a building under construction. Seven people were in the structure. four died and three were injured. The blast tore rock, wrecked nearby buildings, and damaged a riverfront hamlet as doctors rushed to treat the wounded. The accident is attributed to careless handling of explosives and a stray shot.
