A Great Irrigation Enterprise For Weiser Land

The Starks brothers plan a vast irrigation system spanning 17400 acres on Dead Ox Flat opposite Weiser near Malheur Butte. Eighty miles of canals and four reservoirs form a multi year project, funded by the founders with future capital, operating on a farmer ownership plan with $10 per acre shares and annual maintenance assessments. The system will feed land tributary to Weiser with a potential bridge to Snake River commerce.

Machinery for Mill Prompts Rankin Mining Move

H D Rankin of Rankin Mining Co at Pollock visited the city after returning from the east where he purchased machinery for a mill to be placed on his property. The equipment was shipped from the east and awaits shipment to his mine at Council. Rankin went to Council Thursday to supervise the shipment. Advertising is the key for a business man to reach unknown buyers. Resources above liabilities total 403791. Stockholders have contributed 2900 as original capital, with shares pro rata in assets. Low valley, 50 miles away, lies nearer to Leiser than Ontario, and a bridge over the Snake at the foot of Second street plus good roads are seen as necessary to connect the lands’ settlement and cultivation. The Starks have long and hard work behind them, and access will crown their efforts.
