Charles Bengle was shot and killed by Frank W. Harris the Freeport night watchman after a street confrontation over a woman. Harris 37, his father in law John Billerbeck a wealthy Freeport resident. Harris formerly played professional baseball in the Pittsburgh league. Both men are married.

The plan calls for nine directors with four appointed by the reorganization committee and guarantees by the Great Northern.
