Trail opens to Thunder Mountain despite Boise not yet open
The letter from H. W. Connor dated Thunder Mountain April 26 informs Dan Steen that the Boise to Thunder Mountain trail is now open and six teams have finished the work. Travelers report a snowshoe arrival at Weiser and note the Boise segment may be closed for up to 60 days. The piece also lists local names, sermons, social visits, and a livestock sale, ending with an ad for farm mortgage loans via W L Anderson in Weiser.

Hard Trials From Page One On Elk Creek Trail
Report from Elk Creek describes Baker and Gillman of Boise guiding 40 days trying to reach Thunder Mountain via Boise Boulevard. They reached Pin Basin, faced 10 to 15 feet of snow and steep terrain, with eight men hauling 300 pounds up a slope. They doubt a wagon road is possible. $100,000 would not suffice. Trails to Thunder Mountain are rough, with many people on South Fork routes. Estimates of miles along Meadows to Elk Creek and related segments are given, noting blooms on Hast Fork and ample horse feed. Old timers warn Salmon River floods in June, suggesting Warren route after this month if a bridge exists. Ross Krigbaum endorses Warren route in winter, warns Lake Fork, and notes difficulty for the Moyer party from Secesh to Jim Willey’s. East Fork and Profile Creek routes are nearly impossible this season.
