On July 13 a major blaze in Kendrick destroyed the Tacoma Grain Company warehouse, Hunter lumber yards, Northern Pacific roundhouse, Meyers blacksmith shop and several small buildings. The fire caused a 160 pound dynamite explosion, shattering windows citywide and halting local activity.
