George W W Blake and wife Mrs Blake undergo a pioneering operation at Mercy Hospital Ottawa where two strips of skin are grafted from Blake s legs onto Mrs Blakes arms and shoulders. The two hour procedure by Professors Andrews Dudley and De Silva leaves both patients weak but recovering with skin growth noted. The graft marks a remarkable advance in medical science and is believed to be among the largest skin transfers on record.
