Raven arrival from Rapid River reports mining delays

Arthur Baston and wife reached the city last Friday from Rand in the Rapid River district where Baston has worked for Rankin Mining Co. They describe a snowbound journey via Pollock and Meadows and note ongoing disputes with the Potter brothers. Freezing crippled the water supply, limiting mill operation to a bare minimum while twelve workers stay at the mill. Baston praises Rankin acid process and expects a larger workforce and expanded mill operations once disputes are settled and spring road openings allow more machinery installation. The couple will travel to Denver and Chicago, planning a late spring return to the camp.
