In Cascade Montana a southbound Great Northern train witnessed a violent quarrel between rancher Cannon and worker Olson. After a drinking-fueled dispute on the platform, Cannon drew a revolver and fired at Olson in the smoking car. Olson wrestled the gun away, a shot misfired into the door frame, and Cannon fled to Helena, while Olson exited at Cascade.

Man Defrauder McMasters Arrested as Insurance Plot Unfolds

William H. Landis of Oak, a longtime resident and businessman, was found dead in bed at the Ulm House in Great Falls on February 9. The death appears due to heart failure. his remains were moved to Undertaker Powers' rooms pending wishes of relatives in Green Castle, Indiana.

Governor Refuses to Receive Bills in New Jersey

In Twerots New Jersey February 19 the committee on passed bills reported Gov Werle refused to receive four bills passed by both house and republican senate. The bills included repeal of race track and bookmaking laws from last year and two others. The governor did not veto them, and the committee left them on his desk. Brutal Lynching Threat After 60 Lashings in Kentucky

Special to the Commercial Gazette reports 60 masked men rode to a Washington County house near Harodaburg Kentucky. They dragged Mrs. Samuel Milton from bed and gave her 60 lashes with hickory switches while a guard watched. The punishment was said to target alleged infidelity, prompting local feud implications and potential renewed violence.

Robbery on Virginia City & Truckee Express Train

At about 7 pm a highwayman boarded the Virginia City and Truckee mail train near the outskirts of Ann Canon Nev. He forced Wells Fargo messenger Jack Page to hand over a tin box containing about $1,000 intended to pay section hands. The robber smashed the express car door, signaled the engine to stop, seized the box, and fled back toward town after leaping from the train.

Thompson in Court Plea Over Embezzlement Allegations

Altar Violence Stuns St Peters Parish Crowd

Chaos erupted at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church when Father William J. Hill was assaulted on the altar by Father McDonald during mass. The assailant, weighing about 200 pounds, knocked Hill down and grabbed the chalice before deputies restrained him. Contributing witnesses and police restored order as McDonald was taken to the rectory and later to St. Peters hospital for observation.
