A Boise despatch reports a bizarre encounter near Devil's Slide by Lake Cheylon where two travelers faced a white leathery dragon like monster clinging to a man's leg. They fought with knives and stones, built a fire, and the creature fled into the lake with its human victim.
A five mile gravel tract along the Snake River near Grandview Ferry forms a joint stock mining claim area. David Dodge and partners plan a novel turbine like water wheel system on a 40 foot shaft to lift river water for placer ground works. Two 10 foot diameter wheels will face the current and power a pump via wire lines, claiming 90 percent efficiency. A. W. Hager and others seek capital, with ground near China Bar. Also notes Idaho state funds: $5,589.57 arrives soon from public land sales.

Review extols Washington county near Boise City as a vast agricultural and mineral powerhouse, with 40 to 60 bushels of wheat per acre, tropical fruit potentials, and rich mines. It urges a railroad to unlock farming, timber, and copper regions, arguing rail lines would connect Weiser, Ruthburg, Mineral City and other valleys to a booming trade with Boise City.
Across the interspace Boise City sends greeting to Washington and Owyhee. The note celebrates Silver City and DeLamar as thriving towns with an inexhaustible mineral field. It notes railroad access as the key to transforming them into great cities.
The letter notes a week of pleasant weather with rain mud and wind and sleighing soon. It highlights the Middle Valley irrigation ditch progress, stock conditioning and dehorning trends, and local visits including Ed and Robert Jackson to Weiser. Also mentions church meetings, sickness, and a proposed electric street railway in Pocatello.
