A Denver hotel disaster killed and injured numerous guests and staff when a blast caused the building to collapse and flames to engulf the area. Firefighters labored amid dense smoke as rescuers pulled survivors from the wreckage and searched for others still buried.
A blast crushed the Guntry hotel and adjacent structures injuring none. The five story brick hotel, once General Tom Thumb’s widow’s house, housed transient guests and families. Owners Gulity and Groiner are among the dead, with Gary a prominent contractor and cap_ISOL My.
Telegraph line completed through Chantalls to Tuna on the Such fields river, but not yet opened to the public. A South Dakota company, led by J Lasher, will operate under a 20 year contract to run steamship service along Nicaragua's Caribbean coast, carrying mail and freeing land for government use. The deal includes 6200 acres plus additional lands upon congress approval in January 1886.
Fire in the Patent Whip Company engine room destroyed stock and machinery, damaged the brick and frame building, with losses estimated at 30000 to 50000 dollars. The bridge and approaches span about two miles and were praised for safety during construction. Desperate Robber Jailed Near Canadian River Deputy Marshal Charles Baird captured Poster Holbrook of the Christian gang near McAlister.
A party of nine on a small boat near Ocean Gate Resort in Maryland drowned when the craft capsized during a fishing and bathing outing. The accident occurred about 200 yards from shore in water too shallow for the boat to safely manage. Names listed include William Storr, Kanes Storr, Ida Storr, May Storr, Myrtle Stevens, Lena Matt, and Aly Mull, with others missing and families in mourning.
A boxing match between Eddie Aleyer of Beltor and Peter Boyle of Ghisuga in Marshall county ended in a draw after sixteen rounds. Referee stopped the bout to save the Streator lad, as Boyle appeared to have the better of the contest at times.
Chicago April 1 The Holmes H H Holmer castle at Sixty third and Wallace streets which had long been rumored as a site of murders was found on fire at 1230 am Monday. Firemen gained control by 2 am with only nearby property threatened. The interior was ruined and damages estimated at sixteen thousand dollars.
Walter Alexander of Alexander Stewart Lumber Co., Wausau, leads a Wisconsin expedition to study labor interests and forest resources. The party plans a two to three week stay with headquarters at Senitic, having already dispatched a woodman to survey tracts of timber and express intent for large state investments.
In Wout Beach Florida on August 18 two men died during a mob lynching incident. Sam Lewh was seized from a jail at 3 a.m. by masked attackers demanding keys. A deputy fled as gunfire echoed through the jail yard and Lewy was tied to a telegraph pole and shot dead.

Ontario and Western train No 9 struck two box cars after being displaced from a siding at Hernhardt's bay in Middleton Ny. Fireman J Coopur died instantly, brakeman J Brood and engineman Rawliner Mekine were badly burned.
A San Francisco dispatch reports a suicide that was misattributed to Evelyn McCormick, a noted California artist, but the victim was Nellie McCormick, an art student. Similar names and professions caused the error.

Ambitious plans outline for Cleveland and Crespo to travel to the United States for the Atlanta exposition. A rumored visit by a Venezuelan official is possible to invite Crespo and his cabinet, with a Mexican delegation expected to coordinate invitations to the expo.
