Stabbing in Oregon Town Ends in Fatality

Dell Barnard allegedly stabbed J. R. Brown in the streets after a barroom quarrel in Goodmans Saloon. Brown, from Montpelier Idaho, died of a four inch chest wound. Barnard, known for prior trouble, waived examination and was taken to Baker City. Coroner's jury cited a knife or sharp instrument as the cause of death.

Engineer Nightengale Dies Under Moving Train

A Rathdrum special reports serious accident on the Northern Pacific grade in town. Engineer H. Nightengale was crushed to death when the backward engine and loaded gravel train passed over him near his home. His wife and children witnessed the tragedy as workers carried the mangled body to a nearby hospital. The rear brakesman jumped to safety, discovering the engineer’s remains after the wheels passed him.

Wool buyers have been active in Idaho over the past days as the 1906 clip, about 9,000,000 pounds, is poised for sale before shearing. Only around 1,570,000 pounds remain unsold at Mountain Home. Prices range from 16 to 17 cents, with most fleece sold to eastern mills amid widespread unemployment of 100,000 men.

Roosevelt shooting incident leaves two men hurt

In Roosevelt on Sunday night January 8 George Crooks shot Jack Weering in the thigh during a quarrel over business matters. Weersing, a miner and former fighter, lies in critical condition. Crooks, known as a peaceful citizen, may have acted in self defense or in a duel. Weersing’s wife Winifred Ward, married in Boise last October, awaits news as Roosevelt’s camp remains largely peaceful.

Soldiers combat on Jolo Island leaves multiple dead
