Democratic Canvass Amid Wisconsin News and War Talk
A Wisconsin letter suite reviews 1847 political sentiment, party rivalries, and the Strong nomination amid war with Mexico. It cites Grant and Dodge counties, fiscal agent debates, and a Democratic majority, with broader notes on crops, markets, and river commerce. It also recounts ship disasters, local anecdotes, and a visit to a Chinese junk off an American port.
