Railroad Celebration at Cedar Rapids
A Cedar Rapids celebration marked the completion of the Chicago Iowa and Nebraska Railroad to Cedar Rapids on Wednesday the 15th. Excursion trains carried about 200 Chicago visitors, with crowds gathering in Clinton, Camanche, De Witt, Lisbon, Mount Vernon, and Cedar Rapids to greet them. Mayor Sprague and President Walker spoke, a grand procession formed, and a large grove served as the event venue with speeches by local leaders and notable guests. The day ended with an illumination and a ball at Greene’s Hotel.
