A Milan correspondent of the London Times recounts the suffering at the station after the battle of Ena. Wounded soldiers, many in agony, are transported in carriages and goods wagons with straw for padding. Priests give last rites as shells of misery unfold, even as the victory is celebrated elsewhere.
Reports from Bellevue Hospital describe a fatal jaw disease caused by phosphoric acid exposure in match factory work. A young woman recovered from surgery only to die after returning to the trade. A second case involved a similar operation with surgeons Mott and Church in attendance. Also recounted is a Hartford Times correspondent’s humorous misreading at Mount Vernon as a Virginia woman mourns Washington’s tomb, then departs by boat.
At the Medina Masonic Festival on June 24 Ossian E. Dodge sang the Seba Smith piece Snow Storm. He told the 1821 tale of Mrs Blake frozen in a Green Mountains snowstorm, her baby saved from her corpse by a wrapped bundle, amid tears from a seated audience including Hon. H. G. e and his wife, the child’s siblings and relatives.
From Paris dated on the 16th alt Taraport Pasxer reports Theodore Parker and his family arrived Sunday. Louis, a chest diseases authority, finds their lung condition aligns with Parker's Boston doctors. One lung is very much impaired. Parker to Neufchatel to consult Desar, a Swiss naturalist allied with Agassiz in early American years, now affluent and living in Switzerland.
The self-propelling steam fire engine built at Novelty Works New York by Meyers Lee and Larned for the Southwerk Hose Company reached the company house at eight this evening after a 20 mile run from Bristol. The run took about two hours thirty four minutes with stoppages. The engine weighed 8000 pounds, carried water for nine men, and reached speeds up to five miles per hour on inclines with hills tackled at ten miles per hour.
A fragment from a Louisville newspaper notes two young Cinetanations ran away last week with a couple of vowels from the city. The vessels are described as the weaker reports by St Paul standards.

It also notes a Wisconsin paper’s discontinuation and Indiana congressman’s call for opposition unity.
A fragmentary early report describes gold from Pike's Poak and consignments by Drexel Co to a western banking house. A drug vial menu hinted at small vials with dosages, some larger than a pinhead and others half an inch in Hametrr value, with the party not there entertained.

The Louisville Journal argues that Murphy, though arguably the best in the world, could not give Paulsen the odds of a knight, and Paulsen would not accept them. It suggests Paviazy should travel to Europe to test his skill against European players and notes this country may have the first and second of living players.
An account from St. Louis notes Willian Hyns, editor of the St. Louis Republican, on the Balloon voyage. A Cincinnati press report says Hyns faced legal action after a warrant charged him with exposing himself to arouse laughter, but he was discharged after a full hearing with Prof. Wise as a witness.
A St. Louis Republican correspondent reports Secretary Floyd remains gravely ill at the Military Asylum near Washington. The delay in recovery after a Virginia trip causes concern among friends and suggests he may retire from the Cabinet if his condition does not improve. A convention at Bee, Alabama, on June 19 renominated Sylvester for Congress.
