Arkansaw Traveler tale and other odds and ends

A long excerpt opens with the Arkansas Traveler legend set around a craggy cabin and a fiddler, then follows a comic moral about hospitality, hunger, and a wager to play the tune. A second vignette reports a Norway funeral customs, and then a string of brief items: a fashion critique, a short Washington and New Jersey political note, a school fire incident, a gunfight in a city street with multiple injuries, shipboard accidents, and Toledo political melee with knives, plus several weather and shipping notes from across the Midwest and a fire in New Orleans.
