Military Staff increases officers amid Tippoo Sultan treaty
A London bulletin notes the Military Staff establishment has grown to 1863 general and field officers. Reports from the East indicate Tippoo Sultan formed a treaty offensive and defensive with the French Republic, promising Britain will resent this breach of faith. Press silence hints burning of French transports at Alexandria may be premature. News from New York and Philadelphia details the deadly spread of yellow fever across the continent and the severe social disruption it causes. A counterfeit bank-note case surfaces in Falmouth, while a Cambridge University vice-chancellor appointment and a Norritian prize subject are recorded. An obituary chain accompanies local death amid fever.
