Dukes and Gloucester Review Troops for Ireland Duty at Horse Guards
On Saturday evening the Dukes of York and Gloucester conferred instructions on officers to command the 1990 rank and file forming the first battalions of the second and third regiments and the third battalion of the first. Troops received two days pay in advance and were drawn up in St George's Fields and Hyde Park before being conveyed to Portsmouth, some by flying machines and others by coaches. The 15th Light Dragoons later joined from Winchester via Gosport. Letters from Baron Thugut and Count Merfeld praise Lieut. Col Aylett and officers, noting their Imperial Majesty sent medals for the April 24, 1794 action at Nillers en Couche where the regiment routed the enemy and saved the Emperor's life.
