A head end collision on the Louisville and Nashville Railway near Kirkland Alabama killed engineer Will User and fireman F. D. Davis along with three white tramps. Henry Davidson and Will Lee were seriously injured. Charles Harrison lost both legs and Brakeman Hughes was badly hurt. both engineers and several crew members are reported to die. The crash involved No. 11 as cars and engines were demolished.

A brother offers rewards and local authorities consider bounties.
In Kossuth County near Sexton Albert Rahm and Herman Neckar shot at each other after a dispute. Rahm was struck near the heart and Neckar was wounded in the abdomen. Both men survived but are seriously hurt.
A large fire in Union, Iowa, leveled the Whitney general store and adjoining restaurant, with losses around 40000 dollars. The store building suffered about 6000 dollars damage, goods 20000 dollars, and the upper Whitney space used by lodges burned as well. Insurance covered about half.
