Department of Agriculture reports corn in better condition than any September since 1880 with a general average of 94. Last September 84, 6&3 in 1882, 60 in 1881. The San Francisco Post reports about 35 members of the Cleveland and Hendricks Club No. 43 at the Mission joining Republican Club No. 47 at Twenty-fourth and Folsom streets. It notes Blaine’s magnetic appeal and that Postmaster-General Gresham will replace Judge Drummond as U.S. Judge in Chicago, turning down the Treasury post and expected to begin October 1.

In a New York hotel on Thursday night James G Blaine occupied the apartments used by President Arthur when in the city. It will not be many months before Blaine is occupying the same apartments now used by President Arthur when he is in Washington.
Ex congressman Horace F. Page telegraphed from Washington offering his services to the California State Central Committee from October 1 until after election. The offer is accepted and he will speak at several places next to each other. Claus Spreckles controls the Hawaiian crop for 1664 5 with success for subsequent years. National Republican Committees to mount a vigorous Louisiana Florida Tennessee North Carolina drive with a delegation visiting around the 25th. Dakota is the only of 10 states taking similar action. Grant met Blaine in New York. Seattle papers suspend publications.
