Passenger train No. 3 en route to Sacramento was halted near Shingle’s Point by three masked men who forced the engineer to slow and commanded the fireman to help split the train. The first robber was shot by the engineer, fell from the train, and a Sacramento posse pursued the others.

Mase Eliza McKee, an early Reno resident famed for dressmaking and charitable spirit, died after a long illness on Sunday morning. She moved to Reno in its earliest days, supported herself, and kept up until recently with help from Miss Lillian Wiley and friends. Her body was shipped to Piqua, Ohio, last evening.
Nine men sat before the Grand Central hotel and cast a poll on presidential preference. Eight voted for Bryan and one for McKinley. The lone gold standard supporter proposed sampling passers by. The next eight walkers all chose William J Bryan, leaving the gold man hungry as punishment.
