Smoker Express Collision Near West Manayunk

At 9 30 this morning a Sha mokin express on the Philadelphia Reading line collided with a coal train near West Manayunk tunnel eight miles north of the city. Seven killed, nineteen injured, many seriously. Names include Thomas Welsh and James Kilrain. Causes cited as orders ignored on the coal train. Rescue and medical aid rushed to the scene. casualties expected to rise.

Robber Oliver Cartie Perry Escapes Lyona Prison

Oliver Cartie Perry, recently sentenced to fifty years, escaped his Lyona cell this afternoon. The prison force is patrolling the yard as guards search for the fugitive who may have scaled the wall or fled into nearby areas. Separately, a fire in San Francisco destroyed the California Oil Works on Folhom and Main, caused by an explosion, with about $50,000 in losses to McKee and Cotton, G. E. Pennington & Son, and Hobbs Wall & Co.

Grass Water October 94 reports Thomas Rale a longtime Empire mine worker native of Cornwall England died from injuries sustained Saturday. He was 56, survived by a wife and many grown children.
