Mrs. B. Andrews an early Washoe County settler and mother of Mrs. W. H. Caughlin died last night after a period of poor health. She had many friends in Reno and the valley who will be pained by the news. Funeral notice will appear in the next issue.
A late October 1896 list shows uncalled mail in Reno Nevada with names including Addington, Rodman, Hapagena, Roberts, Keating, Sanders, Lapidaire, and several others. The report notes arrivals such as J Berry and Mra D A Bender, who arrived from Carlson last evening and continued west.
Marcus Daly, an Anaconda copper mine owner, has sent 150000 dollars to New York to bet on Bryan's election. He says he has studied the political scene closely and is confident Bryan will win.
William Jennings Bryan and Congressman Newlands spoke at the Auditorium in Detroit last night to a vast crowd, the meeting among the city’s largest and with standing room at a premium. Also noted were other campaign scenes and a notable Nevada backdrop for Bryan’s followers.
