The Central Pacific Railroad cut grain rates from Nevada to tidewater to 6 and 5 per ton, but Nevada farmers see little benefit. At 5, wheat would net about 1.4 cents per pound in California, far below local prices. Reno and Elko Humboldt farmers would gain little, while shipments westward hurt local producers.
