Deadly Tornado Devastates Harper Kansas May 28

At 7 40 last night a violent tornado hit Harper Kansas causing extensive destruction. Most businesses were leveled or heavily damaged. Depots at Santa Fe and Atchison and Southern destroyed. Schools, church, Patterson's Hotel, Opera House, and mill ruined. Seven deaths reported with many injured. Communication cut, wires down up to twelve miles. Also seven dead at Argonica. Nearby Rago saw a damaging water spout with no reported fatalities. Crystal Springs devastated earlier. overall losses around 500000 with minimal cyclone insurance.

Ponziano Oregon May 28 The Week and Briggs case ends with an assembly vote of 429 to 87. Appeals against New York Presbytery action are sustained. Papers return to Presbytery to proceed with trial, which is ordered to be discontinued. A deferred final action may occur Monday. The Greenwood murder trial in Nara California ends with Carl Schmidt found guilty of first degree murder, life imprisonment.

Drowned. Two daughters of J M Phillips near Boxershxtp Cal are missing since yesterday morning. River flooding hampers search as brush and willows complicate tracking. In Mendocino, deputies arrest Carter and Haney for the Caddero stage robbery on May 17.
