Arid lands gain hoped value from artesian wells
The adjourned Congress appropriated 20000 dollars to locate and sink two artesian wells on plains to reclaim arid public lands. Senator Jones supports broader funding, arguing wells could transform vast western plains between the Wahsatch and Sierra Nevada ranges into productive settlements, with several rivers fading into the plains. He predicts future big expenditures to prove land value and attract population.
