Jas H Kinkead received a photograph from Geo Parks Buffalo NY of the steam yacht Florense now under construction for Pyramid lake. The craft will be 20 feet long with a 5 percent beam, a four horsepower engine, and capacity for four passengers. It is due at Wadeworth around the 15th and will be placed on the lake under Joe Bowers for boating and excursion use.
Charles Dido, the pedestrian, defends his public walk across the nation. He explains the Dido name, discusses a Sacramento arrival, and notes a San Francisco offer of six thousand dollars, with two thousand five hundred to him. He aims to reach San Francisco in four days and continues his controversial跨country trek.
The iron work for the new bridge arrives from Hast. Five ogelgada came yesterday afternoon. The bridge weighs 105,905 pounds and cost 3,488.70 to bring here. Messrs. H. Brewer and R. Evens accompany it. They estimate ten men can assemble it in six days. Iron workers to commence immediately. Mr. D. W. Earl in town and working well.
The regular Engine Company meeting drew a large crowd as members discussed improving department efficiency. They favored forming two separate companies one for the steamer and one for hand engines. Officers’ election was postponed two weeks to allow arrangement and self selection by each company.
The Board of County Commissioners met by adjournment with members Hymers Ross and Joy present. Claims allowed include Reno Gas Co and numerous individuals. The sheriff's quarterly report was received and filed. Board adjourned to 16.4 a.m. today.
After a long illness Miss Orpha Ratledge died Sunday night at 12 30. Her family came to Reno last October seeking a home but sickness followed, with typhoid afflicting the eldest daughter and the ante disease striking Orpha. Neighbors and citizens collected funds to ensure a decent burial, and the funeral is scheduled for 2 o clock this afternoon.
About a year ago a green trunk of a mountain ash tree was placed in a pot at V. & T. depot with plans for firewood. Yesterday it sprouted twelve shoots, one foot high, sparking interest as a remarkable growth while still potted. The boys plan to move it to a picnic grove next year.

An Indiana backed group led by Jamon O Wootruff and Gen Daniel Nacaully with Western college scientists plans a 200 student voyage aboard the City of Merida. The two year trip costs 2500 dollars per student and covers routes from New York to Brasil Valparaiso the Pacific and China India Egypt and Europe concluding in New York in early 1880. The project backs include Gov Williams of Indiana and Capt Phillips naval commander with the City of Merida a 1500 ton ship fitted for education and scientific work.
