In Butte Montana licensed gambling ceased at midnight and all gambling houses shut down this morning. The scene marked the end of an era with millions of dollars changing hands over the years as gambling became nearly as routine as banking or dry goods. Legislation passed last winter banned all gambling, surprising players who briefly resisted before deciding to quit and comply.
One of the hardest rains ever seen hit the Greerey area yesterday afternoon about 5 o clock. The downpour lasted about three quarters of an hour and left streets flooded. Ditches could not drain the water quickly enough, and some cellars in the city contained one to two feet of water.

Mrs. Amalia Sheyer mother of Mrs. Levy Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Cohn of Carson died at age 70 after a period of illness. She and her husband were Nevada pioneers with Mr Sheyer a prominent merchant. he died years earlier in San Francisco. Funeral at Sol Levy residence and burial in the Levy family plot in the Jewish cemetery followed by the interment of her husband’s remains beside her.
The State of Nevada summons George W. Jewett to appear in Washoe District Court to answer a complaint by Clara A. Jewett seeking dissolution of marriage on grounds including habitual drunkenness and failure to provide for the family. The action also involves custody of minor Lillie A. Jewett.
